Book Jacket
This book jacket was inspired by a story written by author Gary Paulsen, titled “Hatchet”. In his book, the protagonist is involved in a small plane crash in the woods where the pilot dies, and the protagonist is forced to find a way to survive using only a small hatchet that was gifted to him by his mother. This reimagination takes that idea and places it into the age of technology, where the protagonist must fight for survival without the aid of technology. How much have they remembered from the flood of information, and endless scrolling that technology now provides? The design features an image of a crashed plane in a vast forest of trees that covers the whole cover. Hierarchy, spacing, and contrast are utilized to keep the design from feeling overwhelming and to help the text stand out from the dark background. A simple color palette of red-orange and tan both compliment and provide contrast against the green of the imagery for readability.
